Meaghan Haughian is a visual artist who studied at Mount Allison University, receiving her BFA in 2004. Though she focused initially on printmaking and photography, her current practise consists of painting, drawing, photography, collage and text. She employs these mediums skillfully in the works submitted for the A1C show, titled “Tales in Between”, they are a series of small scale drawings that look at intimate female spaces and experiences.
Karlie King is an artist and craftsperson currently based out of St. John’s, but she is originally from Saskatchewan. Karlie’s work is primarily in clay but she also works in the mediums of textile and film. She has had her work shown numerous times at the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador Gallery as well as in the the Second Space Gallery at Memorial University.
Afshin Matlabi is originally from Tehran, Iran and now based out of Montreal. Afshin Matlabi is a visual artist who works in a variety of media. These includes such practises as drawing, print, performance, video, and digital imaging. For this group show, Afshin has submitted a video piece called “Terrorism, Democracy, Leisure” which is a commentary on the nature of the liberal democratic beliefs of Western society.
Jennifer K. Wilson is a painter whose series of works for this show called ” Mysterious Guests”, addresses the broad nature of the relationship between humans and animals. Her pieces for this series consist of oil and image transfers on canvas.
